The IT industry is known for changing on a dime, positioning forward-thinking businesses to succeed over competitors that wait too long to adopt the latest solutions the market has to offer. In recent years, cloud computing has emerged as a service that is necessary to facilitate long-term growth and will likely be a big part of the tech field's future.
A recent survey of more than 1,250 decision-makers by Evolve IP discovered a vast majority (88 percent) said the IT industry's future is in the cloud. Of the C-level executives, vice presidents and directors included in the study, 70 percent classified themselves as "cloud believers," compared to 58 percent of IT managers who answered similarly.
On average, organizations have launched 2.7 cloud-based services. Companies that are "cloud believers" will have around 3.3 cloud applications.
The survey also found that firms classified as "unbelievers" and "unconvinced" are still expected to jump on the cloud bandwagon at some point. More than half of these businesses plan to launch at least one cloud service during the next three years.
"This year's survey reinforces last year's data with a few major changes," explained Evolve IP General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Guy Fardone. "We continue to see drops in barriers to moving to the cloud across the board, and more support from IT managers as they have become more aligned with business executives. Also, as we have seen in our business, companies looking to move to the cloud on their own are experiencing some hiccups along the way."
Organizations realize they can't always do it on their own
Although a majority of decision-makers are fully invested in the cloud, they also realize achieving a successful deployment may require some assistance from a vendor at some point. Fardone indicated nearly 25 percent of respondents will partner with a third-party service provider for their next cloud service deployment.
