OrthoPediatrics is a global leader in pediatric orthopedics. Using innovative technologies, the company creates plates, screws, nails and other tools for implants and instruments used by surgeons to treat children with birth defects or broken bones.
Established in 2006 in Warsaw, Indiana, OrthoPediatrics quickly claimed a spot in the medical device industry; its rapid growth led the company to seek outside support for their technology needs. The company understood early on that it could not successfully grow the business while trying to manage every facet of its daily operations, including its IT infrastructure.
Once OrthoPediatrics’ workforce surpassed 50 employees, the decision was made to partner with a technology service provider to lessen the burden on the IT department.
Since its inception, OrthoPediatrics’ has experienced rapid organizational growth. While positive on the surface, internally the organization was challenged to keep up with growing demand. The company’s inventory and accounting systems were not robust enough to withstand their rate of expansion.
OrthoPediatrics’ current IT director, Justin Wooten, who has been with the company for seven years, knew that he needed to adopt an ERP solution that would be able to grow and evolve with the organization. With the right ERP solution in place, OrthoPediatrics would be able to track information throughout the entire organization and use it to make more informed decisions.
Finding a partner with expertise in Enterprise Resource Planning required extensive research. In the end, OrthoPediatrics felt Pinnacle, an Advanced Imaging Solutions company, was the best fit for the job.
Taking A Different Approach
Pinnacle stood out from other ERP providers because of its discovery processes and agile methodology. The solution provider’s attention to detail and collaborative approach was important to OrthoPediatrics when selecting an ERP partner.
As a part of the discovery process, Pinnacle’s ERP consultants conducted an in-depth whiteboard session with Wooten and other key stakeholders in the organization.
During the session, the group defined operational goals, current processes, system inefficiencies, and reporting metrics desired. This laid the foundation for Pinnacle’s consultants to create a strategic technology roadmap detailing a plan of action to align the organization’s business strategy with technology.
Pinnacle recommended that OrthoPediatrics integrate Microsoft Dynamics GP with their current systems. The integration would allow the company to set up reporting metrics that provide valuable business intelligence in real-time enabling key stakeholders to make more informed business decisions.
With Microsoft Dynamics GP software deployed, OrthoPediatrics was able to effectively track of records throughout the entire pipeline more efficiently than it could using its outdated accounting system.
This allowed them to make financial decisions benefiting the entire organization. Pinnacle’s ERP consultants continue to work closely with OrthoPediatrics to evolve their Dynamics GP solution to align with the organization’s needs and as new technology becomes available.
The Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation was so successful that OrthoPediatrics extended its partnership with Pinnacle, taking advantage of the vendor’s ERP, IT and Custom Development teams. The teams regularly communicate with OrthoPediatrics to discuss and highlight progress benchmarks as well as address any concerns or issues. This higher level of communication ensures that there are no surprises by either the client or the provider.
A Valued Partnership
For over five years now, Pinnacle has been OrthoPediatrics’ technology solutions partner. The company currently uses Pinnacle for Microsoft Dynamics GP solutions, managed network services, tier one and two IT support, and IT design projects such as system customizations. Pinnacle has also helped the organization with custom Web application development, enabling the workforce to place orders via mobile devices and laptops.
Additionally, Pinnacle works with OrthoPediatrics to monitor performance levels and evaluate current processes; continually looking for ways to be more productive using technology. OrthoPediatrics commends Pinnacle for this hands-on approach, treating the partnership as a true extension of their technology department.
Wooten has been especially appreciative of Pinnacle’s support for OrthoPediatrics and his own role. Wooten has fewer IT responsibilities than he once did, but he is still on call on weekends should anything go awry. Pinnacle is there for him and the organization during weekdays by providing extended support hours to address any complications.
“We have always valued how they look at our relationship with them. It’s a partnership, versus a customer-vendor agreement. In those instances when I had to escalate concerns up the chain, it was always met with that view of us… as a partner. They try to make sure that we have a good relationship and that we are working together to grow our business - that we are always on the right path, especially from the IT and ERP perspective,” Wooten said. He added that the relationship with Pinnacle over the years has provided significant value to the health manufacturer.
