Getting Started With SEO – Create Quality Content

Many times a company or a webmaster will figure out a number of keywords that he or she would like to be searched for and then simply “pepper” those words or phrases throughout their site.  The problem is when you simply add keywords to your current content it can look and sound bad to your visitors.  So how do you attract search engines without discouraging visitors?

Quality Content
Search Engines want quality content; they don’t want pages uniquely created just for them to garner more search traffic.  In fact they discourage it.  Google has been known to kick websites out of their search results for doing just that.  Literally the best thing you can do is create good quality content for your website. People ask me all the time, what do I need to do in order to get more people to my website?  Simple write more quality content.

Keywords
Let’s say you own a widget shop and you want people buy your widgets off of your website.  You’ve done your keyword research and you realize that you could be ranking higher for the keyword phrase ‘widget accessories’.  You also sell widget accessories so you decide to write a series of blog posts on all of the different widget accessories you carry and how people can use them, you also give each accessory its own page on your website with the phrase widget accessories in the text of each page.  After a while you’ll find that you’ve created quality content for your visitors and you’ve created content the search engines can use to determine what is really on your site.

This way of doing things might take a little longer, but remember this is a marathon not a sprint.

Through the month of December we will be posting a series on SEO join us in our conversation in our comments.
